This presentation is an overview of Valley High's successful 6 week orientation program that introduces students and sets high expectations for high school in academics and behavior. All students who enroll in Valley High School are required to enroll in the Response-Ability Training Program course in order to help ensure their success. Throughout the course students engage in a variety of collaborative experiences designed to communicate positive expectations, develop their interpersonal skills and behavior, and improve their coping skills. A great emphasis is placed on ensuring students engage in fun, uplifting activities that promote positive interpersonal relationships among their peers as well as the instructor and other adults on campus. Expected outcomes include increased academic achievement as well as improved social-emotional well-being.   Focus is on students social emotional health and teaching the students how to be aware of external events that may be impeding on their education. After taking the course students feel ready to respond to past failures and have tools to be successful on campus and in the "Real World." Big emphasis is put on how to self-advocate, how to set goals, working on communication skills, and participating in team building exercises.
